Introduction to Business -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, MAT 044 or assessment/waiver, or BUS program advisor or designee approval. Examines the American business system in relation to the economic society. Studies business ownership, organization principles and problems, management, control facilities, administration, and development practices of American business enterprises. 3 lecture hours.

Business Law --Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, MAT 044 or assessment/waiver, or BUS program advisor or designee approval. Describes the judicial system and the nature and sources of law affecting business. Studies contracts, sales contracts with emphasis on Uniform Commercial Code Applications, remedies for breach of contract and tort liabilities. Examines legal aspects of property ownership, structures of business ownership, and agency relationships. 3 lecture hours.

Principles of Management -- Prerequisite: BUS 101. Describes the functions of managers, including the management of activities and personnel. Focuses on application of guidance principles in management. 3 lecture hours.

Human Resource Management --Prerequisite: BUS 105. Focuses on the activities of human resource management, with emphasis on employer-employee relations, job analysis and evaluation, salary administration, work measurement and standards, performance appraisal and legal compliance. 3 lecture hours.

Business Development --Prerequisites: ACC 101, BUS 105, MKT 101. Explores business operations for the self-employed or as a manager of a small business enterprise. The course includes: Covering the role of entrepreneur and manager; selecting the appropriate business organization; developing plans and strategies for small, medium, and growing firms; securing financing for start-up and growing operations; exploring growth opportunities; and successfully managing human and material resources. 3 lecture hours.

Case Problems in Business -- Prerequisites: 45 credit hours to include ENG 112 and MAT 111 or higher, or BUS program advisor or designee approval. Applies business concepts and principles to specific case studies or problems. 3 lecture hours.

Introduction to International Business -- Prerequisite: BUS 101. Provides an overview of the international environment in which business operates today. Demonstrates the global relationships between business activities and how events in one part of the world can influence business decisions and activities in other parts of the world. 3 lecture hours.

Organizational Behavior -- Prerequisite: BUS 105. Studies human behavior in organizations at the individual and group level, including the effects of organizational structure on behavior. Focuses on using organizational behavior concepts for developing and improving interpersonal skills. 3 lecture hours.

Introduction to e-Commerce -- Prerequisites: BUS 101 or MKT 101 or BUS program advisor or designee approval. Focus on how e-commerce is being conducted and managed, its major opportunities, limitations, issues and risks. E-commerce applications discussed include business-to-consumers, business-to-business, and intra-business. Because e-commerce is interdisciplinary, subject matter will be directed at managers, professionals, and students who wish an overview of e-commerce. 3 lecture hours.

BUS 210 Managerial Finance --Prerequisites: MAT 111 or higher, ACC 101, BUS 101. An introductory course in the principles of financial management. Develops decision-making skills related to the financial resources of a firm. Includes techniques of financial analysis, time value of money, capital budgeting, risk and return. 3 lecture hours.

Conference Leadership Training -- Prerequisites: None. Stresses the importance of the conference in business and industry. Emphasizes the practical application of the various techniques of conference leadership and an understanding of group dynamics in the conference setting. 3 lecture hours.

Principles of Employment -- Prerequisites: None. This course will take an in-depth look at the employment process. Emphasis will be placed on the role of recruiting, selecting and training of employees. Techniques in job analysis, behavioral interviewing and on-the-job training will be studied in much detail. 3 lecture hours.

Benefits Administration -- Prerequisite: BUS 202. This course provides an in-depth look at benefit administration. Topics include vacations, holiday pay, insurance, retirement programs and other employee inducements. Emphasis will be placed on cost of benefits in relationship to the overall compensation package. The course will also look at the relevance of reward and recognition and pay structures. 3 lecture hours.

Occupational Safety and Health -- Prerequisites: None. This course will look at the importance of safety and health in the workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 will be examined in depth with relationship to businesses and their employees. Emphasis will be placed on effective practices, costs, labor and management responsibilities, health hazards, alcohol and drug abuse, worker’s compensation, physical conditions and training. 3 lecture hours.

Logistics/Supply Chain Management -- Prerequisite: BUS 101. A study of the basic concepts included in the field of logistics and supply chain management. Topics covered include: supply chain strategy, planning and design, customer service, transportation, purchasing, forecasting, inventory and warehouse management, and financial control of logistics performance. 3 lecture hours.

Principles of Purchasing -- Prerequisite: BUS 101. This course is designed to teach the basics of purchasing management. Topics covered include: the challenge of purchasing and materiels management, objectives and organization, function, specification, quality control and inspection, supplier evaluation, selection, and measurement, supplier development, strategic cost management, contracts and negotiation, purchasing relationships, purchasing transportation, purchasing laws and ethics, and global sourcing. 3 lecture hours.

Transportation Systems -- Prerequisite: BUS 101. Transportation Systems examines the structure and importance of the commercial transportation industry in the logistics sector of business. Topics covered include an in-depth examination of the various modes of transportation including discussions of regulations, economics, characteristics, and development in major transportation modes. Also discussed are costing and pricing issues in transportation and relationship management between buyers and sellers of transportation. 3 lecture hours.

Business Statistics -- Prerequisites: MAT 111 or higher, BUS 101. Designed to build student competence in the areas of descriptive and inferential statistics, through emphasis on the application of these statistical methods. Includes an examination of data, probability of occurrence, and basic sampling processes. Uses statistical methods to model results and uses these models for forecasting. Tests to examine the appropriateness of these techniques are introduced. 3 lecture hours.

Co-op/Internship -- Prerequisites: BUS program advisor or designee approval. Gives students the opportunity to work at a job site that is specifically related to their career objectives. Provides on-the-job experience while earning credit toward an associate degree. Contact hours vary.

Industrial Safety I -- Prerequisites: ENG 025, ENG 032, or assessment/waiver or BUS program advisor or designee approval. Covers the day to day responsibilities of management and supervision toward attaining an accident-free organization. Emphasizes first aid, fire prevention and control, safety procedures in starting and stopping machines, accident investigations, and other preventive measures. Covers methods of advertising good safety practices and rules of plant protection in relation to safety and OSHA. 3 lecture hours.

Operations Management -- Prerequisites: MAT 111 or higher. Operations Management is a study of the efficient production of goods and services that will satisfy the wants and needs of identified customer groups. The course begins with a more detailed description of what operations management is, then moves to an examination of the customer and methods for determining customer demand.
