OAD 009 Introduction to Keyboarding -- Prerequisites: None. Introduces the use of the keyboard. Touch-typing skills, manual dexterity, and speed development are cultivated using computers. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 019 Keyboarding -- Prerequisites: None. Provides students with the fundamentals of keyboarding using the touch method. Emphasizes mastery of the keyboard, development of formatting skills, and development of speed and accuracy on a personal computer using an up-to-date software package. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 103 Word Processing Applications -- Prerequisites: Typing proficiency of 30 GWPM and basic formatting, or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Introduces the concepts of word processing systems. Offers hands-on experience in the operation of a specific word processing software package. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 110 Presentation Graphics -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Provides “hands-on” experience and familiarizes students with specific advanced design and layout techniques and practical applications of business presentations. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 114 Desktop Publishing -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Recommend: OAD 110. Emphasizes the production of publication-quality documents. Attention is given to design and layout principles and production techniques. Fonts, graphics and page composition are integrated into camera-ready documents using computer software and hardware. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 116 Essentials of Business Correspondence -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025 or assessment/waiver. An intensive, competency-based business correspondence course that involves grammar, word usage, pronunciation, punctuation, proofreading, spelling, vocabulary building and other language skills that are essential to good workplace communication. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 119 Document Processing -- Prerequisites: Entry-level proficiency of 35 GWPM on a three-minute timed writing with three or fewer errors and one of the following: basic formatting, OAD 019 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Emphasis is placed on increasing speed, improving accuracy, developing and applying formatting skills, applying communication and language arts skills, and developing document production techniques on a personal computer using an up-to-date word processing software package. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 121 Office Procedures -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Prepares the student to understand and carry out responsibilities assigned in a business office. Topics include telephone techniques, office equipment, travel and conference arrangements, professional development, research techniques, time and stress management and business ethics. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 207 Integrated Applications -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or equivalent experience. Explores the advanced features of an integrated office software package using word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation graphics. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 214 Multimedia Design -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Recommend: OAD 114. Create multimedia presentations for primary delivery via the Internet. Attention is given to design and layout principles and production techniques. Editing graphics and photographs will be introduced. Students will also apply their design skills to preparing documents for electronic publishing on the World Wide Web. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 216 Business Communications -- Prerequisites: ENG 112, CIS 101. Emphasizes analysis of business communication environments—cultural, organizational, technological, international and interpersonal—and the use of communications standards to direct the choice of oral and written communication methods and techniques. It includes practice in writing a variety of messages used to communicate in business and industry with an emphasis on the potential impact of the message on the receiver as a basis for planning and delivering effective business communications. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 217 Problem Solving for Computer Users -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Introduces the organization, structure and functions necessary for managing and maintaining information systems within a business organization. Presents the student with basic computer system concepts such as file and resource management, device drivers, file structures, hard disk organization, software installation, upgrading and maintenance and fundamental data security techniques. These concepts will be incorporated into practical applications. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 218 Spreadsheets -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Provides an in-depth understanding of worksheet design, charting, what-if analysis, worksheet database creation and manipulation and OLE. Knowledge and use of a spreadsheet will be applied to various business applications. Integration of spreadsheets in other applications will be addressed. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 219 Advanced Document Processing -- Prerequisites: Entry-level proficiency of 45 GWPM on a five-minute timed writing with five or fewer errors and OAD 119 or equivalent. Emphasis on a high degree of competency in an office-like environment processing documents on a personal computer using an up-to-date word processing software package. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 220 Records and Database Management -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Focuses on the management and control of documents from creation to disposition using manual, automated, and electronic media. Examines filing procedures, records management personnel, and equipment. Uses database software to create, modify, query, and report information from a database. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 221 Office Administration and Supervision -- Prerequisites: OAD 216 and completion of a minimum of 45 credit hours toward degree or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Emphasizes management of office functions. Key topics include personnel, team building, ergonomics, project management and leadership styles. Case studies and role-playing projects are included. Students will also complete the program outcomes assessment tool. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 222 Database Applications -- Prerequisites: CIS 101 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Provides “hands-on” experience and familiarizes students with the creation and management of a database. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 226 Spreadsheets -- Prerequisites: OAD 218 or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Continues the study of electronic spreadsheets in business. Emphasizes the advanced application of electronic spreadsheets. 3 lecture/lab hours.

OAD 280 Co-op/Internship/Externship/Practicum -- Prerequisites: OAD 216 and completion of minimum of 45 credits toward degree or OAD program advisor or designee approval. Students gain on-the-job experience while earning college credits towards an associate degree. Contact hours vary.

Special Topics in Office Administration -- Prerequisites: OAD program advisor or designee approval. Provides students with the opportunity to experience seminars, workshops and other instructional activities on topics of interest that reinforce the concepts presented in their program area.
