PNU 114 Nursing Issues and Trends -- Prerequisites: Admission to PNU program, PNU 121, PNU 122. Focuses on nursing history, ethical and legal issues. Examines the organizational patterns and roles of the practical nurse in the healthcare delivery system. Emphasizes lifelong learning. 1 lecture hour.

PNU 121 Introduction to Nursing I -- Prerequisite: Admission to PNU program. Pre/Corequisites: ANP 101 and ANP 102, or PNU 126. Introduces the role of the practical nurse as a member of the healthcare team. The nursing process is the basis for providing care within the wellness/illness continuum. Focuses on the application of basic nursing skills essential in meeting biological, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals in preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative environments. 2 lecture hours; 4 lab hours.

PNU 122 Introduction to Nursing II -- Prerequisite: Admission to PNU program, PNU 121. Focuses on the progression of learning nursing skills. Emphasizes application of safe nursing practice in the clinical setting. Drug administration, dosage calculation and mental health concepts are integrated. 2 lecture hours; 4 lab hours; 6 clinical hours.

PNU 123 Pharmacology -- Prerequisite: Admission to PNU program. Pre/Corequisites: ANP 101 and ANP 102, or PNU 126. Pharmacology is the study of pharmacological agents, including classifications, actions, side effects, interactions and nursing implications. 3 lecture hours.

PNU 126 Integrated Life Science -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, MAT 050 or assessment/waiver and PNU program chair approval. Examines physical/chemical factors that enable man to maintain homeostasis of the internal environment. Emphasis is placed on anatomy and physiology. Concepts of chemistry, nutrition and microbiology are integrated. 5 lecture hours.

PNU 127 Care of the Adult I -- Pre/Corequisites: ANP 101 and ANP 102, or PNU 126, PNU 123. Focuses on the application of the nursing process in understanding the pathophysiology and nursing care of clients with circulatory, ventilation and immunity dysfunctions. Emphasizes meeting biological, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs in selected environments. Theory is applied in clinical component. 3 lecture hours; 6 clinical hours.

PNU 128 Care of the Adult II -- Prerequisite: PNU 127. Focuses on the application of the nursing process in understanding the pathophysiology and nursing care of clients with nutrition, elimination, male reproduction and hormone dysfunctions. Emphasis will be on meeting biological, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs in selected environments. Theory is applied in clinical component. 3 lecture hours; 6 clinical hours.

PNU 129 Care of the Adult III -- Prerequisite: PNU 128. Focuses on the application of the nursing process in understanding the pathophysiology and nursing care of clients with mobility, sensory and dermatological dysfunctions. Emphasis will be on meeting biological, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs in selected environments. Theory is applied in clinical component. 3 lecture hours; 6 clinical hours.

PNU 131 Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family -- Prerequisites: ANP 101 and ANP 102, or PNU 126, PNU 122. Pre/Corequisite: PNU 123. Emphasis is on the normal reproductive cycle and normal growth and development of the child within the wellness/illness continuum. Examines conditions and selected interventions based on the nursing process, in providing preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care for the mother and child. The role of the practical nurse is identified in providing holistic care to the childbearing family within the clinical setting. 4 lecture hours; 6 clinical hours.

PNU 132 IV Therapy -- Prerequisite: PNU 122, Pre/Corequisite: PNU 123. This course is a comprehensive study of IV therapy. Emphasis is placed on types of IV fluids, methods for calculating flow rate and venipuncture techniques. Complications if intravenous therapy, mixtures of IV fluids and various types of intravenous equipment will also be explored. 0.5 lecture hour; 1 lab hour.

PNU 133 Care of the Older Adult -- Prerequisites: ANP 101 and ANP 102, or PNU 126, PNU 122. Pre/Corequisite: PNU 123. Focuses on the application of the nursing process in meeting biological, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs of older clients in selected environments. Preventive, therapeutic, rehabilitative care, and in support of death with dignity are major components. Theory is applied in the clinical setting. 2 lecture hours; 6 clinical hours.
