Cultural Anthropology -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, MAT 044, or assessment/waiver. This is a survey of the variety of social and cultural developments within the human family. Various cultural types and major societal structures such as kinship terminology, patterns of production and consumption, and social institutions will be dealt with in a variety of cultural settings. 3 lecture hours.

ANH 254 Introduction to Archaeology -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, MAT 044, or assessment/waiver. An exploration of archaeological sequences from beginnings of settled life to complex civilizations. Particular attention is directed toward developmental sequences and ecological adaptations. The course will also consider the pre-European societies of Indiana and adjacent areas against the backdrop of the archaeological and paleological records of the eastern United States. 3 lecture hours.

SOC 111
Introduction to Sociology -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, MAT 044 or assessment/waiver. Introduces students to the major theoretical paradigms of the science of human society, including fundamental concepts, descriptions, and analyses of society, culture, socialization processes, social institutions, social change, social stratification and the application of this understanding to everyday living. 3 lecture hours.

SOC 245 Cultural Diversity -- Prerequisites: ENG 111, SOC 111. Surveys multiple dimensions of diversity and social stratification in the United States, including race, ethnicity, age, class, physical ability, religion, gender, and sexuality. The social impact of the cultural integration of these groups will be introduced. 3 lecture hours.

SOC 252 Social Problems -- Prerequisite: SOC 111. Explores various problems in contemporary American society. Examines structural and cultural aspects of social problems with specific reference to their origin, development, and suggested solutions. Course utilizes a sociological framework which encompasses a variety of theoretical perspectives. 3 lecture hours.

SOC 261 Sociology of Relationships and the Family -- Prerequisites: "C" or better in ENG 025, ENG 032, or assessment/waiver. This course is designed to examine the sociological and psychological dynamics of dating, relationships, marriage, family life and parenting. Introduces students to the major theoretical paradigms as they relate to relationships. Emphasis will be placed on how our contemporary society and culture is affecting these institutions and customs. The course will also explore the impact of divorce and stepfamilies on today’s lifestyles. 3 lecture hours.
