Medical assistants are multi-skilled professionals dedicated to assisting in patient care management. Working with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors and nurses, they regularly interact with patients. Performing administrative and clinical duties, they may also manage facilities, personnel, and emergencies. Practical nurses work under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or physician. They are responsible for assessing patient health and hygiene, performing therapeutic procedures, educating patients, administering medication, monitoring intravenous therapy, and recording patient data. Practical nurses may work in a variety of settings, including physician clinics or offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and industries. Aging populations and changes in the healthcare field have increased the demand for practical nurses. Practical nurses work in healthcare institutions providing basic bedside care.
